*PLEASE SEE OUR ONLINE SERVICES TAB FOR DETAILS ON HOW WE ARE ABLE TO CONTINUE TAKING BEHAVIOUR REFERRAL DURING THE CURRENT STAY AT HOME SITUATION*
Companion minds offers a behavioural consultation service for dogs, cats, and other small animals, on veterinary referral. This service is headed by Tom & aims to make a thorough assessment of the underlying causes of the problematic behaviour and other contributing factors. Based on this assessment, we will then devise a plan with you to help you manage the problem and work towards a resolution.
Included in price:
- Home visit consultation
- Thorough written report summarising assessment alongside individualised behavioural advice.
- 3 months follow up via email and phone
- Discharge report at end of follow up
- Packages are available that vary in the number of practical training sessions included
We are a vet referral only service. This means we require your vet to complete a form and send it to us before we can see you. Your referring vet will also receive a copy of the report. This referral is vital to ensure that there are no underlying medical factors which could be contributing to or causing the problematic behaviour as well as for opening up the line of communication with your vet should further veterinary investigations be needed.
Steps to follow:
- Download a veterinary referral form and give it to your vet or ask your vet to access the form here (we also require a full clinical history from your veterinarian, this is stated on the referral form).
- Download a canine (dog) or feline (cat) history form that you, the owner, need to complete and send back to us
- Once we have received both of these forms, we will contact you directly via your preferred method to arrange a time and date for your consultation. These can be at the weekend or the evening to suit when is best for you.
The consultation process:
Where? – Consultations are all home visits, taking place at your own property. We currently operate within a 20 mile radius of DN21. Further travel is considered but comes with an additional charge of 40p/mile of additional travel.
How long? The consultation can vary, being anywhere between 1 – 3 hours, so please allow for this when it comes to booking a date and time slot.
Who needs to attend? – If possible, it is best if all members of the family or all residents of the household are present.
We offer a variety of behaviour packages:
Top tier – £250, includes home visit consultation, written report with behavioural advice, 3 month follow up support via email and phone, & 3 one hour training sessions to be arranged at any point during follow up, and discharge report at end of follow up. We recommend this for problems with dogs based in ‘reactivity’ or aggressive behaviour where practical sessions are usually particularly helpful for owners.
Middle tier- £200, includes home visit consultation, written report with behavioural advice, 3 month follow up support via email and phone, & 1 one hour training session to be arranged at any point during follow up, and discharge report at end of follow up.
Lower tier – £175, includes home visit consultation, written report with behavioural advice, 3 month follow up support via email & phone, and discharge report at end of follow up (NO practical sessions included). More suitable for cats where less practical support is typically needed.
Note: If a lower or middle tier package is purchased, an upgrade after the consultation can be purchased.
Payment must be received before the consultation. You will only be charged once all forms have been received and a date and time for your consultation has been set.
We are happy to consider payment plans if required. Please contact us to discuss this further.
£25 for additional 1-to-1 training sessions to help you implement behavioural advice if you feel you need it
£75 for an additional 3 months follow up support via email and phone including a 1 hour training session
£75 for a practical session extension involving 3 practical sessions + a discharge report after the final session (NO email & phone support included).
For any additional problem behaviours you need help with that were not originally listed or discussed, this will require another consultation to ensure an accurate assessment and treatment plan is made. These are charged at the same rates as above but with a 20% reduced rate.
If you have previously been discharged but would like another consultation for the original or different presenting problem, these are charged at a 20% reduced rate for the packages as above, OR £100 for a consultation & written report only.
Note: For dogs, a full behavioural consultation is required for any problem that is not listed under the 1-to-1 dog training service. A full behavioural consultation is required for all other species.
