Clinical Animal Behaviour Service

Does your animal need some help with their behaviour?

Companion Minds offers a behavioural consultation service for dogs, cats, and other small animals, on veterinary referral.

We aim to make a thorough assessment of the underlying cause of the problematic behaviour and other contributing factors. Based on this assessment, we will then devise an individualised and tailored plan with you to help you manage the problem and work towards a resolution.

As a Certificated Clinical Animal Behaviourist registered with the ABTC who works on veterinary referral, this service may be covered by your insurance providers. To find out, check your specific policy with your insurance providers

What kind of issues can we help with with this service?

We can help with a range of behavioural issues which your animal is exhibiting. For example:

  • Separation related issues

  • Aggressive behaviour towards people or other animals

  • Fearfulness

  • Fears and phobias

  • Veterinary handling

  • Barking/reactivity

  • Hyperactivity

  • Repetitive behaviours (such as shadow chasing, tail chasing)

  • Chasing behaviours (traffic chasing, livestock)

  • and any other problematic behaviours.

How to book?

  • Complete our Behaviour History form online here:.

  • Have your vet complete the Vet Referral form .

Once we have received both of these, we will be in touch with you to book your consultation.

We are a vet referral only service. This means we require your vet to complete a form and send it to us before we can see you. Your referring vet will also receive a copy of the report.

This referral is vital to ensure that there are no underlying medical factors which could be contributing to or causing the problematic behaviour as well as for opening up the line of communication with your vet should further veterinary investigations be needed- see our blog on this topic.

What’s included?

  • Home visit consultation, usually lasting 3-5 hours

  • Report detailing our assessment and treatment plan

  • Vet liaison

  • Email support/whatsapp support between catch ups

  • £475 Silver Package: 3 hours of either zoom/in person support to use over 3 months.

  • £575 Gold Package: 6 hours of either zoom/in person support to use over 6 months.

This fee is per household rather than per dog, so if you are experiencing difficulties between household dogs, or you have two dogs requiring help, there is no ‘extra’ charge for this.

Zooms are great for catch ups to check in on progress, offer small tweaks to plans, and ensure things are on track. In person practical sessions are useful for supporting implementation of plans to assist training skills or with stooge set ups.

  • You can add further support when you finish your purchased amount of time.

  • Your vet will be updated when you are signed off from our services.
